Hi, I’m Melissa Urbanek.
I work with children to help them explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences. I help them to understand their world, cope with challenges and express themselves in a healthy way.
I gained my clinical experience working in children’s day treatment and outpatient settings with Fraser Child and Family Center, Washburn Center for Children and Midwest Center for Personal and Family Development.
A little about me, I am married and have three children who keep me on my toes! I love to be active, outside and embrace all the seasons.
My Approach
The primary tool in therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. When working with your child, I will support them, encourage them and help them through their challenges. I am solution-focused and like to use exercises, activities, homework, workbooks and other tools to help my clients gain skills to overcome their challenges.
The modalities I use most often in therapy are client-centered, strength-based, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation training, positive psychology, growth mindset and the developmental perspective.
I offer both 30-minute and 50-minute sessions. I find that some kids prefer the shorter session while others love the longer ones.
